In my peri-menopausal years I found myself feeling tired, getting injuries from exercise, getting ill more regularly and feeling physically weak – all symptoms of my decling estrogen levels. Fast forward 3 years – ‘lifting heavy shit’, combined with HRT, has changed all of this for me! Weight training has restored my lost muscle mass and made me strong again, it has improved my posture and core stability, I now have the bone density of someone 15 years younger than me! Lifting heavy shit has also helped me maintain lean muscle mass because as our estrogen levels decline we start storing more fat. Not if you lift heavy shit! I’ve never been healthier, felt more body confident, energised or fit. I love the challenges it presents me with and the feeling of being strong! Weight training has given me a ‘fabulous at fifty’ feeling that I never thought I’d have.
